Attorney Jeffrey P. Coleman answers a common question about what to consider when selecting an executor (or personal representative) for your estate plan.
The selection of a personal representative is one of the most important processes in your estate planning. I will however say that some people have delayed in preparing their estate planning because of uncertainty. It is more important that you designate someone and get a will in place as soon as possible because it can be changed easily in the future. It is important that you choose somebody who will have not only the requisite level of trust, but the requisite level of experience based upon the assets and the issues with which that personal representative they need to deal.
